Nick Gavin and Katrin Thormann renovated and expanded a cottage on Shelter Island beforehand owned by Melvin Dwork, an inside designer, with assist from the New York design agency Workstead. Particular care was taken to protect a variety of particulars, together with the pine-paneled ceilings, the lagoon-green ceramic tile ground and the vintage black-painted louvers above the lounge home windows.
